I have been taking my VW 2002 Passat here since 2004, and it still runs as smooth as a new car. I had a very annoying problem where due to an electrical short my car would not start up. This was an ntermittent problem, and when I left it at their garage, they tried their best to isolate the problem, but could not. He did not charge me a lot for it and patiently explained why it's so difficult to diagnose.

I found SFAS on the Diamond List when I was fed up with the Subaru dealership on Stevens Creek. It was like a breath of fresh air - no lying, no drama. The best thing is the 1, 2, 3 system of rating vehicle repairs. 1's are immediate/safety hazards, 2's are "fix on next visit - funds available", 3's are "watch for changes". Plus they are close to public transit AND if you're waiting, Matthew's mom, Natalie, will drop you off in DT Mountain View if you like. The garage is SPOTLESS. Don't know how they keep a garage so clean. Matthew once advised me NEVER to purchase a used Porsche Boxer S, when I was have a crazy moment of weakness. I listened and am very happy I did.

Matt, his mother, & his team of mechanics are nothing short of superb. Extraordinarily knowledgeable, efficient, & the kind of service you normally can only dream up - all with very reasonable rates.I brought my Honda CRV in a few years ago when it seemed to be on the brink & within a day they gave me a sheet with a ranked order of repairs that needed to be fixed. Matt took the time to explain everything - what needed immediate attention & what could wait for a couple more months.Within a few days the Honda was humming along in wonderful condition. I recently had it checked over a couple of weeks ago & once again my now 12 year old Honda drives like new. I've found the goldmine of auto repair & won't go anywhere else.

Transmission Failure. I'm no "car guy" but I know what that means...$$$.Those two words were given to me through a very brief phone call from a service rep at a local dealership. I had brought my Acura TL in to diagnose some transmission slipping issues. Unfortunately I was just past the warranty terms. The rep says, "I can have this transmission replaced today, I just need your authorization." He then informs me of the estimated $4.5K. Huge pill to swallow. I need time to think.A co-worker, who happens to be quite anal about who wrenches on his cars, says I should call this guy Matt at Sunnyvale Foreign Car Service Foreign Car Services. He mentions Matt is very upfront, professional, and honest. The work that was done on his car on the few occassions was above standard and fairly priced. I give Matt a call. We talk briefly about how I was referred and my transmission issue. He asks me about the estimation I was quoted from the dealership for the transmission replacement. He says, "Give me a day. Let me contact a friend of mine (from another Dealership). I think he may be able to get you a better price. Can't promise anything, just give me a day." What? Wait, I'm confused. You're going to call someone on my behalf (after only speaking with me for five minutes on the phone) to get me a lower price on a car repair. Is this for real? Matt calls me back the next day as he stated he would. Big deal in my book with the lack of follow-through exhibited in many businesses these days. And here's where it gets really odd. Matt gives me the name and number of his friend, the Service Manager at a nearby dealership. He says they are already expecting me. Their price...$2500...Holy Moses!!! Talk about under promising and over delivering...IMPRESSIVE.You know what this also means, no business for Matt. No income for Matt's business. No problem for Matt. This exemplary level of service and selflessness is commendable. Although I did not actually have my car serviced/repaired, however had I, there is no doubt in my mind that I would be giving the same praise and appreciation to Matt and Sunnyvale Foreign Car Service Foreign Car Services.

Great shop!! They have worked on both my 2003 Subaru WRX and my wife's 2005 Subaru Forester XT, and I have always had a great experience with them. My WRX was in the Subaru dealership shop for a total of 10 days trying to diagnose and fix my Check Engine light. I figured it would just be a 'black tape fix'. Mentioned it to Matt the first time I took my car there, and presto...fixed it in 1 day!!! The shop is right next to light rail and down the street from CalTrain. As an added bonus Matt's dogs are usually there and ready to help you relax.

Honest and friendly. They're not the cheapest, but they do quality work.

This shop suggested we take the car to the dealer to have a mass air flow control replaced under warranty rather than charge to do it, so they were honest. But the dealer didn't fix the problem either, and it cost some more money [dealer charged me an inspection fee to change a half-used air filter, as if that was going to fix my stalling.] Ended up taking the the VW to yet another indy shop that came up with the best solution, which was to repair the bad wire connections to the mass air flow controller. Everyone else was just reading the error codes.

These guys are great, always ready before they promise it, always good work, never upsold anything I didn't need, and even talked out of things I thought I wanted once. They're not the cheapest shop in town, but the prices are fair, and they do good work and stand behind it.

They did a thorough diagnosis before we decided what work to do. The customer service rep went thru my options with no pressure to do anything. I was prepared for an expensive transmission leak repair, but they discovered a cracked rubber washer which they repaired free. I was very pleased with the service, the price, and the way I was treated. I will use them from now on.

This shop demonstrates the most genuine and intelligent customer care and customer communications I have ever experienced. Their used car inspection is so expert that they can tell you the kind and cost of repairs you will probably need for the next several years. They will also help you estimate a fair price for the used vehicle. They are also amazingly honest and fair: I was recently in for an alignment; they put my Camry on their state of the art machine (mirrors, computers, etc.) and then showed me the computer readout-- suggesting that the car was so close to specs that it really didn't make sense to spend the $$$ on an alignment. (Note, this owner seems so knowledgeable and personable, you should call him on your show sometime.)
